As the Bush administration increased its aggressive criticism of Iran in 2006, many members of Congress and the public urged diplomatic engagement to deal with the nuclear dilemma. For a time, the administration was persuaded to pursue negotiations, and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice indicated her plans for a renewed diplomatic push.
In an attempt to buttress the diplomatic effort, Amendment 4257 to Senate 2766 offered support for a diplomatic strategy to engage Iran. Senator Joe Biden (D-DE) offered the amendment.PeaceMajority.org
