Mandatory Arbitration: Feingold Amendment to the Farm Bill.

This vote was on an amendment (No. 2522) to the Agriculture, Conservation, and Rural Enhancement Act of 2001 (S. 1731) to prohibit meatpackers from imposing mandatory arbitration in contracts with farmers. Sponsored by Sens. Russ Feingold (D-Wisc.) and Charles Grassley (R-Iowa), this amendment puts the Senate on record as recognizing the unfairness created by the high costs and biased procedures of mandatory arbitration. Passed.
