U.S. Chamber of Commerce
Transportation Appropriations.
The U.S. Chamber - a steadfast supporter of transportation investment - once again strongly lobbied in favor of this year's Transportation Appropriations bill. The Senate approved the conference report version of H.R. 2299. This measure provides record levels of investment for highway, transit, and aviation systems. It fully funds the major aviation and highway transportation funding laws, AIR-21 and TEA-21. The bill also allows for expanded cross-border trucking as called for under the 1993 North American Free Trade Agreement, but long delayed by the Clinton Administration. Expanded cross-border trucking will increase trade between the U.S. and Mexico and create new opportunities for American businesses. The U.S. cannot grow and prosper without a safe, efficient, and robust transportation system. Failure to invest in our roads, rails, ports, waterways, and air transportation network could have devastating consequences for the economy, our just-in-time inventory system, the environment, national defense, and the safety and the mobility of Americans.
