Concord Coalition
Supporting the 'Do Nothing Plan' for Social Security.
This group has frequently criticized those who choose to attack politically painful options for Social Security reform without saying what they would do instead. H.Con. Res. 282 offered Representatives an opportunity to support this "Do Nothing" approach by voting for a "Sense of the Congress" resolution calling for "innovative" ways of reforming Social Security without lowering benefits or increasing taxes. No details were provided. The vote was on suspending the rules to pass the concurrent resolution. Under the rules of the House, a two-thirds majority of those present and voting (288 in this case) is required for passage of a bill under a suspension of the rules. The bill passed.
