NAACP

SANCTUARY CITIES.

Final passage of a bill to prohibit any local government agent from complying with federal immigration laws, or their enforcement. The bill would also allow the federal government to issue an arrest warrant for any law which may be broken (including traffic laws) if there is "probable cause" to believe such an individual is in the United States illegally. H.R. 3003 passed the House; no further action has been taken on the legislation.

American Conservative Union

HR 3003 Sanctuary Cities.

This bill prohibits state and local governments from interfering with federal and other state or local officials who are trying to carry out the nation’s immigration laws. Under the bill, authorities cannot be prevented from asking about a person’s immigration status and certain Justice Department grants can be withheld from those who do not comply with requests for cooperation. This group supports the enforcement of federal immigration laws and supported this bill. The House passed the bill.

AFL-CIO

No Sanctuary for Criminals Act.

This bill would cut off federal funds to jurisdictions that limit its cooperation with federal immigration enforcement agents in order to protect low-priority immigrants from deportation, while still turning over those who have committed serious crimes. The bill would punish “sanctuary cities” that commit to engage in sensible local policing and that work to end discrimination and racial profiling by withholding federal funding for critical public safety programs. The bill passed the House without amendment.

National Catholic Social Justice Lobby

No Sanctuary for Criminals Act (H.R. 3003).

This group opposed this bill which threatens public safety by undermining efforts to foster collaboration between local police and impacted residents and improve their communities. This bill jeopardizes crucial community trust by promoting an “enforcement-only” approach for policing. Passed.
