UNDERMINING THE INTEGRITY OF THE EPA.

Representative Frank Lucas (R-OK) sponsored H.R. 1431, the EPA Science Advisory Board Reform Act of 2017, which would undermine the ability of the Science Advisory Board to provide independent, objective, and credible scientific advice to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This bill would weaken conflict-of-interest protections and would arbitrarily limit the participation of subject matter experts. This legislation would also allow industry to significantly prolong the scientific review process, which would delay key public health and environmental protections. The House approved H.R. 1431. The Senate took no action on this legislation.
