It includes provisions that will promote American job creation, provide relief for working families, prevent the outsourcing of American jobs, close tax loopholes and ensure corporate accountability. House Approves Two-Month Extension of UI Benefits.
Because of GOP obstructionism, the program providing federal extended UI benefits for the long-term unemployed lapsed in early April. The House finally approved legislation reinstating and extending this critically important program for two months. House Passes Another Short-term Extension of UI Benefits. With the extended UI benefits program set to expire in early June, House Democratic leaders took up legislation that would have extended the program through the end of November in a package that also extended a number of expiring tax provisions. The House approved the bill. Unfortunately, Senate Republicans blocked action on this measure and the extended UI benefits program expired on June 2.

Jobs: House vote to extend unemployment insurance and prevent foreclosures.
The American Workers, State, and Business Relief Act of 2010 (H.R. 4213), eventually referred to as the Promoting American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010, included a wide variety of provisions aimed to help struggling Americans and bolster the economy. This was the House vote on a slimmed-down package that included an extension of unemployment benefits, a homebuyers tax credit, and provisions to help strengthen pension plans that were devastated by the economic downturn. However, a number of critical emergency spending provisions SEIU advocated, including the six-month extension of the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP) and COBRA, health benefits for the unemployed, were excluded over concerns about adding to the deficit. This bill passed.
