| Amend the Public Health Service Act to Protect Women’s Access to Healthcare. |
| This bill would ensure that every prescription presented to a pharmacist would be filled without unnecessary delay or interference. This bill specifically outlines that a pharmacy has no longer than four hours to fill a valid prescription from the time of refusal. The bill also asserts that pharmacies will not employ pharmacists that purposely hinder the prescription-dispensing process.
The aim of this legislation is to stem the growing frequency of pharmacists’ refusals to dispense birth control and emergency contraception based on moral or religious objections. Some right-wing ideologues have long wanted to deny women the right to use birth control, and are now encouraging pharmacists to use their position in the health care system to do just that. |
