Are you concerned about the security of using your credit card on the Internet?
Consider using one of the "disposable" credit card number systems such
as MBNA ShopSafe (MBNA-issued
cards only) or
deskshop from Discover. Check with your Credit Card issuer for other
cards.
Very briefly on how these systems typically work:
You use the system to generate a brand new credit card number. You specify the
credit limit, expiration date, etc.
This new credit card number is linked with your regular credit card. That means
all charges against the generated credit card show up on your normal credit
card statement.
At least in case of MBNA ShopSafe that we are most familar with, you can use
the generated creadit card just like the normal one, with one exception. If you
use it once with a merchant, it can be used again only with the same merchant.
